Daily itinerary

Day 1:

The departure of flight Reykjavík Domestic airport to Narsarsuaq.
Check-in time is at least 1,5 hours before flight departure.
After arrival at Narsarsuaq airport, info meeting soon after arrival at local Café.
In the afternoon you can make the short hike to the viewpoint “Signalhøjen” (about one hour). From the top, you have an impressive view of the glacier.
Accommodation at Narsarsuaq Hostel for two nights.

Day 2:
Day hike to Narsarsuaq Glacier a part of the ice cap only 8 km from Narsarsuaq. The hike goes through the Flower Valley before a 300 m ascend to a plateau gives you a magnificent view of the glacier. From here follows ½ hour walk down to touch the ice! The hike goes the same way back.

Day 3:
Boat transfer to Qassiarsuk. The ruins from the Norse period are well preserved, and the museum of a longhouse and little church can be visited (not included). Today, the residents are mainly sheep farmers, but the village also has a school, a church and a shop.
Accommodation in a hostel for two nights.

Day 4:
You can make a day hike to the sheep farm Tasiusaq located at the Sermilik fjord. It is a relatively easy hike by a tractor road through an impressive landscape spotted with small, blue lakes. There are good chances to see the White-tailed Eagle hover above your head. From Tasiusaq you can take the sheep track leading to the neighbouring farm Nunataaq. It is a stunning hike along the innermost part of a fjord, which is often filled with small icebergs. From Nunataaq you can take another tractor road leading back to Qassiarsuk. The round trip is about 20 km in total.

Day 5:
Hike to the sheep farm Sillisit, located south of Qassiarsuk in front of the ice fjord. The hike is on a tractor road (about 14 km), and your luggage will be transported by car/boat. Sillisit is a perfect idyll combined with overwhelming nature and added hospitality from a Greenlandic family. Staying one night at the farm gives you an unforgettable experience.
Accommodation at Sillisit farm for one night. It is possible to buy a local dinner at the farm (not included and must be ordered in advance).

Day 6:
Boat transfer from Sillisit to Itilleq, the disembarking point for the village Igaliku. You walk the 4 km at the “Kings Road” to Igaliku. Igaliku is one of the most beautiful villages in Greenland! The beautiful houses are situated in a green bay with luscious grassland. On the other side of the fjord towers the landmark Illerfissalik in a rough and desolate landscape.
Accommodation at Gardar Hostel for two nights.

Day 7:
Igaliku was the Episcopal seat for about 300 years (1100-1400) during the Norse era, and the ruins from that time are very impressive. There is a permanent exhibit in the church that tells this particular story. Today, Igaliku and its surroundings have some of the best hiking opportunities in South Greenland.
One optional day hike (17 km) goes to the plateau, which offers a superb view of the Qooroq Ice Fjord, the stranded icebergs on the underwater moraine at the entrance to the fjord and the enormous glacier at the head of the fjord. It is the perfect place for a picnic! On the way back, you may be lucky enough to find minerals and stones, like the shining moonstone (labradorite). The waterfall hike (about 15 km) is another popular day trip. A set of beautiful waterfalls tumble like pearls on a string down towards Tunulliarfik Fjord. This hike can be combined with the summit of Nuuluk Mountain (823 m), which lies south of Igaliku (20-22 km).

Day 8:
Hike by the King’s Road back to Itilleq and transfer to Narsarsuaq.
Flight from Narsarsuaq to Iceland.
