In Igaliku there are very impressive ruins from the Norse period. There is a small museum in the church which is worth visiting. Today the village thrives on sheep farming. An optional day hike (15-20 km) goes to the Plateau, from where there is a superb view of the Qooroq Ice fjord, the stranded icebergs on the moraine and the enormous glacier at the head of the fjord. On the way back, you can be lucky to find minerals and stones, for instance, the shining “moonstone” (Labradorit).
Return by the King’s Road to Itilleq harbour from where the boat will take you to Qassiarsuk where the Viking Eric the Red settled in 982. The Norse ruins are well preserved, and the open-air museum can be visited on your own (admission is included).
