Daily Itinerary
We begin by taking a short guided tour of Akureyri and then drive South into the Eyjafjörður Valley.
Our main destination is the charming Christmas House, and it’s Garden which is open all year round. Here you can learn about how Icelanders celebrate Christmas. They have very different festive traditions in Iceland compared to other European countries. There too is the opportunity to buy local Christmas handicrafts and Christmas ornaments. The Christmas Garden is filled with engaging games for children to play plus sweet little Christmas themed items to look at.
From here we drive further South into the valley and make a photo stop at the church of Grund – built in 1904-05. It is thought to be one of Iceland’s most beautiful rural churches. Then we cross the bridge over the Eyjafjarðará river and begin our return journey back along the east side of the valley to Akureyri.
