As usual the main celebration of the Icelandic National Day on 17th June started in the Botanical garden. Despite the not very promising weather report the day turned out to be pretty warm andsunny, thus attracting many families to enjoy the cosy atmosphere of the gardens.
The celebrations took place at the new pavillion close to the café where the visitors enjoyed refreshements or simply settled on the grass. The celebration started by the brass band ofAkureyri playing a few song and was followed by a few short speaches, poetry ready and Kvennakór Akureyrar – Akureyri Women’s choir singing a few songs fitting the occassion.
