The Westfjords are one of the more remote areas of Iceland and offer a magical Nordic experience: truly breath-taking cliffs and sceneries, endless easy accessible natural hot pots to soak in Iceland’s geothermal waters, tiny colourful fishing villages, creative art communities, waterfalls and: numerous golden sand beaches with clear turquoise – blue waters! Some of us call the Westfjords the Caribbean of the Arctic North as it seems like a cold version of dream beaches.
The Westfjords are home to the most western point of Europe (if you don’t count in the Azores Islands) and during summer time the steep cliffs around Latrabjarg host a rich birdlife full of puffins and other birds. There are plenty hiking possibilities both for easy walks, day hikes or multiday hikes with overnight stays in huts the area offers authentic family-run guesthouses and accommodation. Our Nonni Travel team member Steph went on a slow travel road trip through the Westfjords last summer and fell in love with this very special region. “I thought, I knew Iceland by heart, but slowing down and taking time to get to know the infrastructure and accommodation and to embrace the beauty of this area was so inspiring and eye-opening.
