Itinerary
Discover the unique natural treasures of Iceland on our Golden Circle Classic tour, and end the day with a traditional geothermal spa, the spectacular Hvammsvik Lagoon! You’ll see gushing geysers and golden waterfalls, you’ll walk between continents, and you’ll learn about Viking history, all in one dazzling day.
After departing from Reykjavik, your first stop is Thingvellir National Park. Looking across this incredible landscape, you’ll see gigantic cracks in the Earth’s surface. This is the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, where the American and Eurasian tectonic plates are pulling apart from each other, making Iceland a little bigger every day. That means you can stand with your feet on two different continents at once here!
Thingvellir is a special place for Icelanders. It was the home of the first Viking parliament, which sat here for centuries from 930AD, and it is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Your next treat is a visit to Geysir, part of the Haukadalur valley geothermal area. Geysir is the Icelandic word for “gush”, and this spouting hot spring gives its name to gushers worldwide. Geysir is silent nowadays, but you’ll enjoy seeing Strokkur instead! Every few minutes, Strokkur erupts, sending cascades of superheated water up to 30 meters into the sky. It’s your chance to get close up for brilliant pictures of a phenomenal natural marvel, feeling the ground tremble beneath your feet as you await the next thrilling eruption. Just remember to stand upwind!
The next stop on our Golden Circle Classic tour is Gullfoss. One of Iceland’s most famous waterfalls, Gullfoss (the “Gold Falls”), is fed by millions of gallons of freezing meltwater from Langjokull, the second-largest glacier in Iceland. The thundering milky-blue waters plunge more than 30 meters down into a steep canyon. That means there’s always shimmering sheets of spray, setting off endless rainbows on sunny days. There are several viewing platforms at different levels, giving you lots of fantastic picture opportunities.
Arguably the highlight of the tour will be the time spent at the Hvammsvik Lagoon. Soak away your worries in the soothing geothermal water, renowned the world over. Your tour include entrance ticket, towel and free drink.
